Lesson Three: pages 34 to 39                                          Date :July 2017

Subject : Structure ( Relative Pronouns )                     Time : 30 min  

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Objectives :

- Introducing four kinds of relative pronouns.(who-whom-which-that)

- Teaching their usage in combining two sentences.

- Being familiar with the function of each one in the sentences separately.

- Personalizing the new structure in different and real situations.

 

Behavioural objectives:

- The students use the relative pronouns to combine two sentences. They do this exercise     using an exercise in the internet.(cognition-combining objective)

- They are able to explain  how and where they can use the relative pronouns.( cognition-    understanding objective)

- They can do the exercises related to the relative pronouns in the class using some slides.

  (Cognition- evaluation objective)

- They can personalize the new structure to their real situations.( Cognition- practical         objective)

 

Materials needed :White-board, paper(A4), Magnetic Buttons, Book

Technology needed: PC, video projection and Internet connection

Warming up and  Review  (5 min)

 - Greeting  ( pay attention to the student’s mental and physical condition )

 - Checking the class list.  

 - Checking and correcting their homework one by one.

Reviewing the New words and Reading using some slides on Video-Projection.

 For example:

 Teacher: What’s this?( showing a picture of a church)

 Students: Church

Primary Evaluation :

- Fill in the blanks with “the New words” from the lesson.

Teacher : Now I want you to read the sentences carefully then complete them with the given words. ( Then the teacher calls some of the students to answer.)

-   Checking “the Reading comprehension”  through multiple choices question.

Teacher: Now, I want you to complete this sentence with these choices that is related to the reading.( After a few minutes the teacher calls one of them to answer)

 

 Teaching processes (18 min)

Technique in teaching:Using “Eclectic Teaching Method”.

Some activities in this part : Showing some slides by video projection, Eliciting, Modelling,  Repetition, Personalizing and then students practice and figure out the rules inductively themselves.

Prerequisite knowledge:

The students can name several wh-question words and explain their functions.

Entrance Behaviour :

Connecting their background knowledge to introduce and teach the new structure indirectly.

Teacher : Can you name some of the wh-question words?

Students: why, which,….

Teacher : Where did we use them in these sentences? (showing some sentences )

Students: At the beginning of the sentences.

And this conversations will be continued.( to remind their function )

Showing another slide containing a passage with relative pronouns. The teacher asks the students to guess and realize the difference between the usage of these words in this slide and the last one.

The teacher introduces the relative pronouns one by one (using some slides) and the students themselves elicit and guess the rules.

 Practicing the new structure

Activities as “the Continuous Evaluation”:

Doing an exercise (using internet), the students combine some sentences using relative pronouns.(Monitoring, correcting and marking by the teacher )

Game:  students will be given written cards.

Each group must put the cards in correct order and make a correct sentence by choosing the proper relative pronoun. Then they will come and put their cards on the board.

Performing a pantomime:

The teacher asks the students themselves to come and play a short role. In this way they can personalize and produce sentences using relative pronouns in real situations.

Summary

Summarizing the structure briefly in one slide.

(Using the students themselves to explain them).

 

 Final Evaluation and Assignment (7 min)

1-Group Evaluation: The teacher shows the students some pictures with written questions. ( They use the computer themselves and write the answers). After a few minutes, the teacher asks them to read the answer aloud.(marking each group)

 

2- Individual Evaluation:

 Giving an exercise to answer individually on a paper. (Fill in the blanks with relative pronouns)

Collected papers will be corrected and given them back.    

 

Assignments

-  Doing the exercises on pages 36 and 37.

- Writing four sentences using relative pronouns about their families and the things              around them.

- Searching and gathering sentences and passages containing relative pronouns.(Group  assignment)

The teacher introduces some useful Internet links to search and study more about this structure.
